Jerel Bolder (FH)


Bolder sets Forest Hills records on his way out!

Forest Hills senior WR Jerel Bolder has set multiple Yellow Jacket school receiving records in his senior season. Bolder, a future member of the NC State Wolf Pack will leave Forest Hills as the leading receiver in multiple categories. This record setting season saw the senior receiver break the Forest Hills school records for receptions in a season, receiving yards in a season and career receiving TDs. Bolder finishes the 2024 season leading Union Co. with 86 receptions and 1445 receiving yards both NEW Forest Hills school records. All three records were previously held by Yellow Jacket great Cedric Hamilton with 61 catches and 1188 receiving yards and 36 career receiving TDs.

Bolder leaves Union Co. and is headed to Raleigh with 171 career catches for 3223 yards and 37 receiving TDs ALL are Forest Hills school records. These receiving numbers puts him 6th all-time in Union Co. for career receptions, 4th all-time in Union Co. for career receiving yards with 3096 and tied Cuthbertson’s JT Cauthen for 4th all-time in Union Co. for career receiving TDs with 37.

Nick Diamond (W)


Diamond sets Warrior rushing record in playoff win!

Weddington’s Nick Diamond set the Weddington school record with 279 rushing yards in the 37-21 playoff win over East Forsyth in the 4th round of the NC State playoffs. Diamond had TDs runs of 4 yards and 58 yards in the win. Former Warrior Gavin Black held the school record of 274 rushing yards in 2012 vs. Kings Mountain. Diamonds 279 rushing yards ranks 17th all-time in Union Co. history. The Union Co. record for rushing yards in a game held by Sun Valley’s Albert Funderburk with 456 rushing yards vs. Piedmont in 2014. With the win the Warriors advanced to the 4A State Semifinals and will travel to Grimsley Friday Dec. 13th. Congrats Nick and GOOD LUCK!

Zach Dilworth (FH)


Dilworth sets Yellow Jackets passing record in playoff win!

Forest Hills senior QB Zach Dilworth set a Yellow Jacket school record for passing yards in ag me with 388 in the 38-21 playoff win over Randleman. Dilworth was 24-of-34 for 388 yards and 4 TDs in the win. The previous record was 336 passing yards by a Yellow Jacket was Terrell Benson vs. Piedmont in 2004. Dilworth’s 388 passing yards ranks 15th best in Union Co. history. The Union Co. record for passing yards in a game is held by Sun Valley and Seattle Seahawk QB Sam Howell with 539 yards vs. Anson Co. in 2016. Dilworth and the Yellow Jackets will travel to Salisbury for round 3 of the playoffs. Congrats Zach!!!!

Marvin's Zach Lee does it again!

Marvin Ridge senior Zach Lee finished his senior season breaking records. Lee set the Marvin Ridge school record with 262 yards in the 28-24 playoff loss to N. Guilford. Lee broke the school recored he set just one week earlier with 252 yards rushing on 36 carries in the 24-10 first round road playoff win over Asheville. Lee ran the ball 26 times on his way to breaking the school record. Marvin Ridge has had only two other players in school history to record 200+ rushing yards in a game. Even Medders, who ran for 245 yards vs. Reagan HS in 2023 and Caleb Deveaux, who ran for 205 yards in 2015 vs. Cuthbertson. Lee finishes his senior year with 1238 rushing yards. Congrats Zach!!!!

Marvin's Zach Lee sets school record in BIG PLAYOFF WIN!

Marvin Ridge senior Zach Lee sent a Marvin Ridge school record with 252 yards rushing in the 24-10 road playoff win over Asheville. Lee ran the ball 36 times to set the record and scored 3 TDs in the win. Lee broke the record of 245 rushing yards previously held by Evan Medders, who ran for 245 yards vs. Reagan HS in 2023. Lee joins Medders and Caleb Deveaux (205 yards in 2015) as the only Mavericks to rush for 200+ yards in a game in school history. Marvin Ridge will be at #10 N. Guilford in the 2nd round of the state playoffs. Congrats Zach!!!!

Mason Iovino (CU)


Cavaliers Iovino sets 2 records in the BIG WIN!

Cuthbertson’s Mason Iovino set the Cuthbertson school record with 4 rushing TDs in the win over rival Ballantyne Ridge. Iovino tied the Cavalier record of rushing TDs of three, which was held by Julius Stradford (’11) earlier this season and broke the school record in the 55-0 win. The second Cavalier record that Iovion broke was for most rushing TDs in a season. Mason Iovino entered the contest against the first-year school tied with former Cavalier great Austin Kendall who ran for 14 rushing TDs back in 2011. Iovino’s night ended with 4 rushing TDs and a 2024 season total thus far of 18 rushing TDs. Congrats Mason!

Jordan Young (M)


Monroe's Young picks Clemson!

Monroe's 4-Star safety Jordan Young has accnounced he will continue his football and academic career at Clemson University. Young, narrowed his picks to Clemson, NC State, Florida State and Michigan earlier this season. He announced his choise of Clemson via twitter, "“I’m home Tiger Nation, let’s get it!”. Young plays both sides of the ball at Monroe but will be a DB in Death Valley.

Young has 116 receptions with 28 receiving TDs in his Red Hawks career on offense. On defense Young has 17 career interceptions for 362 return yards and 4 TDs. 31 total career TDs. Young has led the Red Hawks to a 9-0 record and Rocky River Title this season. The NC Playoffs begin Nov. 15th. Congrats Jordan!

Diamond ties Warrior record in win!

Weddington’s Nick Diamond tied a Weddington school record with 4 rushing TDs in the 45-13 win over rival Marvin Ridge. Diamond, who was hurt on the 1st play of the game back on August 22nd returned last week and ran for 60 yards and 2 TDs. Diamond added 4 rushing TDs vs. Marvin Ridge which tied him with former Weddington QB Drew Podrebarac who ran for 4 TDs vs. Marvin Ridge back in 2010 and Will Shipley ('19) who ran for 4 in the STATE TITLE WIN! The Union Co. record for rushing TDs in a game is 6 and held by Forest Hills legend Juanne Blount (vs. CATA in ‘09), Monroe’s Donard Covington (vs. Berry ’09) and Union Academy’s Isaac King (vs. Christ the King ’19) and Rasheed Rushing (vs. W. Stanly ’12). With the win the Warriors win the SCC with a 4-0 record and will play next in the 1st round of the state 4A playoffs on Nov. 15th. Congrats Nick!

Parkwood duo sets Wolf Pack records!

The Wolf Pack duo of QB Emmett Evans and WR Nisiah Smith joined the Union Co. record book Friday night in the 46-13 road win over West Stanly. Senior Emmett Evans threw for a school record 382 yards and tied another school record with 5 passing TDs in the win. Junior Nisiah Smith pulled down four receptions for 211 yards and 2 TDs. Smith’s 211 receiving yards breaks Isiah Mobley’s school record of 208 receiving yards set in a 39-29 win over Forest Hills in 2021. Evans 382 passing yards breaks former Parkwood QB Grey Wyrick’s record of 284 passing yards in a game set in a 38-31 loss to Piedmont in 2013. Congrats Boys!!

Porter Ridge's Myers ties school record in win!

Porter Ridge’s junior QB Christian Myers tied a Porter Ridge school record after throwing four TDs in the 41-7 win over West Cabarrus. Christian connected with William Taylor twice along with Rai’shawn Elmore and James Antiweiler. Myers tied the school record held by Porter Ridge great Lee McNeil, who threw 4 TDs in a game twice, both against Piedmont in 2010 & 2011. The Pirates improve to 4-0 on the season. Piedmont's Nate Gagnon has huge night!

Piedmont’s senior RB Nate Gagnon added his name to the Union Co. record book after rushing for 255 yards and a TD in the 41-17 loss to S. Iredell. Gagnon 255 rushing yards ties former Piedmont standout Matt Price, who put up 255 vs. Sun Valley in 2015 for 2nd all time in Piedmont school history. The Piedmont school record for rushing yards in a game is 277 and held by Jacob Oakley vs. Forest Hills in 2010. Congrats Nate!

Mavericks Voss joins the Union Co. elite after huge night

Junior WR Alex Voss added his name to the Union Co. recordbook after pulling down four TDs in the 42-28 comeback win over Ardrey Kell. Voss and senior QB Braydon Rediger hooked up four times in the game. Voss’s four receiving TDs ties a Marvin Ridge record set by Emeke Emezie in 2016 vs. Hickory Ridge. Alex's touchdown catches were of 4, 55 and 6 yards to from Rediger. Voss tallied 208 yards receiving which ties for third all-time in Marvin Ridge school history behind Devin Powell (237 yds), Sean Brown (214 yds), and Ian Hutter (208 yds). The Mavs are 2-1 on the season, Congrats Alex!

Braydon Rediger (MR)


Mavericks Rediger joins the Union Co. record book in comeback win!

Senior QB Braydon Rediger joined the list of the most prolific quarterbacks to play in Union Co. history after throwing 5 TDs in the 42-28 win over Ardrey Kell. Ardrey Kell was up 28-7 and Rediger was 18-of-26 for 316 yards and 5 TDs in the comeback win. Rediger’s 5 passing TDs in a game join some of the finest Union Co. quarterbacks in history. The Union Co. record for passing TDs in a game is 7 held by Monroe’s Khamoni Robinson (2021) and Marvin Ridge’s Austin Colonna (2016). Congrats Braydon!!

Keenan Jackson (W)


Jackson ends 2023 season on top!

Keenan Jackson broke one of the oldest Union Co. records and set a Weddington school record along the way to helping to lead Weddington to the 4A state title after a 56-21 win over Hoggard for the 4A state championship.

Jackson broke the Union Co record for receiving yards in a season that had stood for 21 years. Piedmont’s Dan Brooks as held the record of 1649 yards in a season since 2002. Jackson broke the record on a TD pass from Tyler Budge to give the Warriors a 28-7 lead heading into halftime.

Jackson then went on to set the Weddington school record for receiving TDs in a season with 19 breaking Ryan Blacks record of 17 set in 2013. Jackson finished the game with 10 receptions, 136 yds, and 2 receiving TDs along with recovering a fumble for a TD and was named MVP of the state title game.

Keenan finishes the 2023 season with 102 receptions, 1704 receiving yards and 19 receiving TDs. Keenan is the 2nd player in Union Co. history with 100+ receptions in a season. Jackson joins Cuthbertson’s JT Cauthen (104) as the only two players ever with 100+ receptions in a season.

Hibbard joins the Union Co elite!

Senior QB Brady Hibbard joined the list of the most prolific quarterbacks to play in Union Co. history after throwing 4 TDs in the 28-7 playoff win over Anson Co. Hibbard was 16-of-27 for 235 yards and 4 TDs in the win. Hibbards 4 passing TDs gives him 53 career passing TDs and now ranks 10th all-time in Union Co. Hibbard set the Forest Hills school record for most touchdown passes in a career of 49 last week vs. Anson Co. Congrats Brady and good luck in the playoffs!!

Hibbard sets Yellow Jacket record in career TDs!

Senior QB Brady Hibbard broke the Forest Hills school record for most touchdown passes in a career in a 22-20 come from behind win over Anson Co. Hibbard entered the last game of the regular season tied with former Yellow Jacket great Terrell Benson at 48 career passing touchdowns. Hibbard set the record on a pass to Ross Smith to break the Forest Hills record. Hibbard now has 49 career passing TDs and ranks 15th all-time in Union Co. history. Tyler Budge(W)


Budge rewrites Weddington’s career passing records in 2 SCC wins!

Over the past two weeks Weddington’s Tyler Budge has set two career passing records and helped the Warriors go 2-0 in the SCC. Budge set the Weddington school record for passing touchdowns in a career with his 52nd in the 42-3 win over Sun Valley. Former Warrior QB David Bayha (‘14-16’) held the Weddington record for TD passes in a career with 51. Budge’s 56 career TD passes ranks 9th all-time in Union Co. history right behind Weddington’s Head Coach Andy Capone (’06-’08) with 63.

The next record to fall was for passing yards in a career held by Anthony Boone. Budge moved past Boone as the school’s all-time leader in passing yards in the 62-14 win over Cuthbertson. Boone (’06-’09) previously held the Weddington record for career passing yards with 5244 yards. Budge, the senior QB entered the game Friday with 5129 career passing yards and was able to set the new Weddington record in the win over Cuthbertson. Budge’s 5435 career passing yards currently ranks 12th all-time in Union Co. history behind Sun Valley’s Cory Smith with 5443 passing yards. Warriors are 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the SCC. Medders sets Mavs school record!

Marvin Ridge senior QB Evan Medders shattered the Marin Ridge school single game rushing record with 245 yards rushing in the 42-27 win over Reagan HS. Medders set the record on 25 carries and scored 3 TDs in the win. The previous Marvin Ridge school record was 205 rushing yards by Caleb Deveaux against Cuthbertson in 2015. Congrats Evan!!

Sam Mobley (PW)


Parkwood names Mobley HC

Former Parkwood standout Sam Mobley has been named the new Head football Coach for the Wolf Pack. Mobley was the receivers coach under Coach Gittens and Coach Boyd the past three seasons. Mobley played receiver at Parkwood from 2011-2013 and then played at Catawba and professionally in the AAF with the Salt Lake Stallions and in the XFL with the Houston Roughnecks. Boyd resigned after one season at Parkwood amid controversy with allegations of harassment of some of the Parkwood players. Parkwood announced the head coaching change via their twitter account, “Introducing the Wolf Pack’s new head football coach - Coach Sam Mobley!”.

Cuthbetson names Duke Howell HC

Duke Howell has been named the fourth head football coach at Cuthbertson High School, according to an announcement on the school’s Facebook account Monday afternoon. Howell will replace Andy Markatine, who led the Cavaliers to a 3-7 finish in his only season. Howell was the Cavaliers offensive coordinator for Markatine in 2022. “Coach Howell brings a plethora of football knowledge and a reputation of leading high-powered offenses and building young men of character to the program. We are incredibly excited to begin this new era under the leadership of Coach Howell,” the Facebook announcement stated.Howell, a 1991 Sun Valley High graduate who wrestled at Appalachian State University, was the Spartans offensive coordinator previously. Weddington's Budge has record season

Weddington’s Tyler Budge set two school records during the 2022 playoff run Weddington went on. Budge set the Weddington school record for touchdowns in a season with his 31st in the 35-14 playoff win over Northwest Guilford. The previous Weddington record was held by Jeff Welch (’13) & Whitner Litton (’17), who both threw 30 TDs in a season. Budge finishes the 2022 season with 34 passing TDs and that ties him with his head coach Andy Capone (’08) for 7th all-time in Union Co. history.

Budge ends the 2022 season with 3219 passing yards which is a Weddington school record and ranks 6th all-time in Union Co. history. Congrats Tyler!!!

Khomani Robinson (M)


Monroe's Robinson ends career as one of the best!

Monroe’s Khamoni Robinson is now Monroe’s all-time leading passer in career passing yards and career passing TDs. Robinson finishes his football career at Monroe as the Redhawks the all-time leader in passing yards with 7221 passing yards. Robinson passed Zephaniah Wall who previously held the Monroe school record with 6607 career passing yards now sits 3rd all-time in Union Co. history behind Sun Valley’s Sam Howell (13,451 yds) and Cuthbertson’s Austin Kendall (8588 yds) on the list.

Robinson also finishes his career with 75 passing TDs in his 4 years at QB and sits 5th all-time in career passing TDs in Union Co. history. Zephaniah Wall holds the Monroe school record with 76 career passing TDs. Congrats Khamoni!!

Parker Burke (CU)


Cavs Burke does it again!

Cuthberton's junior QB Parker Burke thew 6 TDs in a game for the 2nd time in his career. Burke connected on 15-of-23 passes for 281 yards and 6 TDs in the 41-14 win over Piedmont in the final game of the regular season. As a sophomore in his 1st start ever at QB Burke threw 6 TDs. Burke connected with Evan Taylor twice, Keenan Jackson twice & Corban Hall twice for the six scores. The 6 TDs ties a Cuthbertson school record by Austin Kendall. The Union Co. record for TD passes in a game is held by former Marvin Ridge QB Austin Colonna and Monroe's Khamoni Robinson with 7. Burke joins an elite group of historic Union Co. quarterbacks with 6 TDs including Cuthbertson's own Austin Kendall, Sun Valley's Sam Howell, Forest Hills Brady Hibbard and Weddington's Jeff Buseick and Whitner Litton. Cuthbertson junior receiver Evan Taylor tied the Union Co. record and Cuthbertson school record with 17 receptions in the 29-28 overtime loss to JM Robinson. Taylor ties the record currently held by former Cavalier AJ Colombo (’20) and former Porter Ridge Pirate Jamonta Pettiway (’08) with 17 receptions in a game. Tayler finished the game with 184 yards on 17 receptions and 3 TDs. Congrats Evan!

Budge sets Warrior passing record!

Weddington’s junior QB Tyler Budge set a school record for passing yards in a game with 404 yards in a 49-32 road win over West Forsyth. Tyler is the 10th player in Union Co. history to throw for 400+ yards in a game. Budge joins some former Union Co. greats who threw for 400+ yards in Sun Valley’s Sam Howell (2015 & 16), Marvin Ridge’s Austin Colonna (‘15) and Sully McDermott (’19), CATA’s Travis Levine (’12) current Sun Valley head coach Ryan Smith (2009) and Budge’s very own head coach in Andy Capone (‘07). Budge connected on 29-of-41 passes and 3 TDs in the win. The previous Weddington school record for passing yards in a game was 353 yards by Whitner Litton vs. Marvin Ridge in 2017. Congrats Tyler!!

Hibbard enters the Union Co. record book with 6 touchdown passes!

Yellow Jacket QB Brady Hibbard threw 6 TDs in the 54-7 route of Red Springs HS. Hibbard in his secord start at QB for Forest Hills was 10-of-15 for 110 yards and 6 TDs. Hibbard thew 2 TDs each to Jerel Bolder, Ross Smith and Kemarion Massey. Hibbard transfered to Forest Hills from Providence HS and now joins an elite group of historic Union Co. quarterbacks with 6 or more passing TDs in a game. The Union Co. record for passing TDs in a game is 7 and held by Monroe's Khamoni Robinson and Marvin Ridge's Austin Colonna. Congrats Brady and welcome to Union Co.

Pirate's Zayachkowsky headed to Charleston Southern!

Porter Ridge senior Stephan Zayachkowsky announced that he will continue he academics and football career at Charleston Southern University. Zayachkowsky announced his intentions on his twitter account, “Thank you to everyone who has supported me in my football journey! I’m proud to announce my commitment to play football at Charleston Southern University!”. Zayachkowsky, a 2-year starter for the Pirates and heading into his senior year was named 1st Team All-UCHSF as a junior and sophomore while being named All-SCC as well. Zayachkowsky has totaled 147 career tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 816 rushing yards, and nine touchdowns in his three years as a varsity starter for the Pirates. Congrats Stephan and good luck!

Andy Markatine (CU)


Cavs name Markatine as HC

The Cuthbertson Cavaliers have named Andy Markatine as the new head football coach. The Cavs announced the news via their twitter account,"Cuthbertson Athletics is excited to announce our new HFC - Andy Markatine. He comes to @cuttyfootball after a 6-yrs as DC at Myers Park w/ 64-14 record, & last year as asst @ Wingate. Welcome to @CHS_Cavsnation Coach!" Markatine replaces Trey Kavanaugh who stepped down in May to pursue a college position at App. State. Kavanaugh was 13-18 over three seasons and led the Cavs to the 3rd round of the state playoffs in 2021. The Cavs will build around junior QB Parker Burke and junior WR Keenan Jackson moving forward in 2022. Good Luck Coach!!!
