CUTHBERTSON

Cuthbertson (7-4, 2-2)

The Cavs are coming off a 7-4 season and making the playoffs under Head Coach in Duke Howell. The Cavs will need to replace QB Davian Hall (833 yds and 6 TDs) after transferring out of Union Co. Rising senior James Rucker III and rising junior Austin Davis are in competition at quarterback for Cuthbertson. The two are replacing Davian Hall, who transferred to Catawba Ridge High School in South Carolina in the off season. Rucker played in six games and threw for just two touchdowns against one interception. Davis was the starting junior varsity quarterback. The Cavs leading rusher Mason Iovino ran rough as a junior. Iovino was named 1st Team UCHSF and UCHSF Newcomer of the year after rushing for 1298 and 18 TDs last season. Iovino set multiple school records as a junior and is hungry for a BIG senior year. The Cavs’ receiving crew is sparse with only Mason Inman the leading receiver returning in 2025. Inman had 20 catches for 262 yads and 1 TD. Iovino can catch the ball out of the backfield; he showed that with 13 catches for 172 yards and 1 TD in 2024. The Cavs kicker Charles Li split time in 2024, knocking in 11-of 13 PATs and was 0-1 on field goals.

Defensively the Cavs lose their top 3 tacklers from 2024 and will need to rebuild in 2025. The rebuild will begin with senior LB Micah Casto returns after putting up 58 stops & 1 sack in 2024. Patrick Laughlin is 2nd leading tackler returning with 32 stops lasts season. LB Logan Cutts played in 9 games as a junior and had 3 interceptions for the Cavalier defense. Mason Inman will anchor the Cavs defensive backfield. The Cavs open the 2025 season Aug 22nd.
